The value of the gift card doesn’t change.  The price will only change after the gift card is redeemed for stock.  So if you give someone a $50 gift card, they can wait however long they want before redeeming the gift card.  The day they redeem, they’ll start off with $50 of stock, and then the value of the stock will start to go up and down base on the market.
